Love pie? Love baking? Then join Community West Credit Union for the Middleville Heritage Days Pie Baking Contest on Saturday, August 17! That’s right, a pie baking contest with an opportunity for some pie eating, too!
Bakers across West Michigan are invited to submit their best homemade pie for a chance to win a special prize along with bragging rights. There’s no better way to celebrate community than with baking a treat that is considered “the most traditional American dessert”.
As Sweet as Pie
During the Middleville Heritage Days, come and go from 1:45 – 4:00 pm at the Downtown Pavilion for a pie-filled afternoon. Those interested in baking must enter their homemade pie from noon – 1 pm. Judges Panel Tasting will begin at 1:45 pm to see who will win the judges favorite. The community is invited to join the tasting from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and cast their vote for community favorite. Be sure to stick around to hear the winners announced at 3:30 pm!
Easy as Pie
Entering is easy! Interested bakers can register online anytime or in-person during pie drop-off from noon – 1 pm at the Downtown Pavilion. Cost is $5 per entry, which is due August 17 when dropping off the pie.
The Perfect Pie
The scale for judging is 1-5. Winners have the highest score of combined criteria:
- Taste: Properly sweetened, proper thickness and flavor.
- Presentation: Eye-appeal, aroma, finishing techniques and doneness of filling.
- Pastry: Flakiness of crust, tender, properly done and flavor.
Bring your pie in an 8” – 10” pie tin (disposable is preferred). We are not responsible for lost, damaged or broken pie pans. You may pick up your pie to take home starting at 4:15 pm. We are not responsible for pies or containers left behind.
If you are a winner, you give your permission to have your photo taken and acknowledge it can be used for promotional materials, online and on social media.
Beauty is in the pie of the beholder, and this year, the panel judging your pies on the criteria will also include Jeremy and Amanda from 91.3 WCSG radio.
A Piece of the Pie
